Radiography

University of Manchester

Course Director: Peter Huthwaite & Andreas Schumm

Description

The purpose of this course is to give the students a thorough understanding of the use of radiography in industry. Radiography is one of the key techniques used in NDE, and the only modality apart from ultrasound which can image for subsurface defects. The students should develop an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the technique, how sources and film/detectors work and the physics of radiographic scattering from objects. The course will also cover CT reconstruction, and include a tour of Manchester University’s extensive collection of CT machines.

Assessment

For assessment, the students will be asked to produce a Matlab script to generate a radiography or CT image.
