This EngD will investigate advanced ultrasonic imaging, signal processing, finite element modelling and critically the feedback link into design, manufacturability and structural integrity to maximise build efficiency and component quality in the oil and gas industry. This project will focus on key challenging industrial market applications of in-process arc welding, corrosion resistant cladding and future materials and components.

The student will be based at the University of Strathclyde before relocating to the Baker Hughes GE Centre of Excellence in Montrose. The student will work alongside researchers and engineers developing  enhanced manufacturing inspection and will have the opportunity to influence future High Value Manufacturing operations.
